I’ve bethought to have the happiest time in my life this spring. How so? I’ve simply decided that noticing the small things those bring me delight above the sad ones is the best way to become a happier person. And as I’ve already buried deep in the closet all my coats and sweaters those carry the smell of winter melancholy and autumn angst, I realized that spring is the best season to create a new habit and actually start paying attention.
Some say it takes 21 days for a habit formation. Well, the scientists had laughed at this myth a lot and then had made the maths. As it turned out according to the study examined the habits of 96 people over a 12-week period, it takes 2 months – 66 days to be exact, for a person to form a habit. Good to know we have spare 3 months to see by example and an extra month to start enjoying the outcome. As much unobtrusively as the season of birth crosses the threshold of our homes, I’d like the next five things on my list create magic for us. With this post I encourage you to summon your happiness together with me, initiate a new habit formation and after spring will fade away, smile widely to the arrival of summer.
Plan your adventure
I could not think of a better way to spend a spring break but to make all preparations for the trip to a place you’ve never been before. I am very concerned about people postponing their journeys and making excuses about lack of time and money. On my experience, the time and money are always in short supply, and even if you can’t afford a voyage to another continent or a ticket to an expensive resort, you still have a wide range of opportunities those won’t make a hole in your pocket. Take a one-week camping trip, visit the farmhouse of your granny, go for a picnic for the sake of your wealth. And finally, remember this: procrastination served no one a good job. Tomorrow never comes, live today.
Pamper yourself with a new thing
This is literally the best part of my plan. Likely I invented it all precisely because of this step. But I really want you to feel how good it is to connive your secret desires. Allow yourself one thing you desperately wanted for many many years no matter the price tags and other excuses. I’ll share with you mine below.
I’ve always been a person of accessories but above all of them were watches. I remember the day my mom gave me my first watch. It was by agreement. I knew she would buy them for me for sure because I struggled A LOT to deserve such a generous gift. As every kid (and still some adults) I was afraid of dentists. I had the problems with my teeth and was a real seizure queen every time at the doctor. Until my Mom promised me to buy the long-desired timepiece. I did not even squeak not once at the doctor since that promise. The watch worth all those 10 appointments and all that pain.
Childish keenness has turned out into a passion. I had different watches throughout my life, but the one I always craved for was the wood watch. I got it this spring! Koa and ash watch Frankie series by JORD Watches is exceptional in its performance. It’s a masterpiece that was formed by a skilled team and presented in the most beautiful and stylish appearance. I must admit it goes in harmony with my every outfit and just has become the first thing I wear on in the morning. I made a big deal of the research of different brands of wooden watches in my time, but JORD Watches are unlike any other. Their unique, minimalist designs, accompanied by the stunning wood options lend for a gorgeous watch, unlike anything I’ve ever seen.
These guys anticipated all your requests even if you are a very demanding customer. Be prepared for a special occasion with a timeless gift in advance. Take advantage of the engraving service provided by JORD Watches to personalize your gift and capture your affection in a unique quote. You can engrave either the watch or the wooden cedar box which by the way deserves writing a separate blog post dedicated to its wooden aroma, divine appearance and secret drawer for the accessorize storage (You got me here, guys.) Find an inspiring reading
We talk even more about inspiration when spring comes because every new beginning craves a strong motivation. I find mine in books, of course. They are my satellites in every new adventure. Books make me happy by default, so I can’t skip this significant step. My choice for this spring read is I’ll Be Your Blue Sky by Marisa de Los Santos. You are welcome to go to my 13 Must Reads of the all-time favorite books to find your perfect spring read.
Pack your apartment with spring flowers
This is an absolutely gorgeous act of plunging into a season especially when the weather outside ordered otherwise. Like this week, all I can see from my window is pouring rain and dusky sky. But still, my home breaths with spring and fragrance as my husband managed to cover all the free space with tulips, eucalyptus, daffodils, and anemones. Goals to my sweetheart tho! I was going to do it anyway. He’s just very familiar with my spring rituals, so he outpaced me this year. I encourage you to do the same for your loved ones and yourself, and you’ll notice that you smile more often.
Create your list of the things to be happy about
Small things, nuances, minor events, sudden meetings, spontaneous decisions – everything will work here. If you have a positive emotion remembering any of these occasions, then it deserves the spot on your list. I’ll share with you mine if you share yours. I go first!
- Early morning when the woods are cool, and the ground is still moist and dewy.
- The smell of the just-from-the-oven pastry and freshly ground coffee.
- Hugs from my love.
- A smile of the stranger.
- The feeling of the sun rays on my bare skin.
- The smell of freshly cut grass.
- Rainbow lost in the water jet.
And at the end of my ultimate guide to forming a habit of being happy, I want to say that happiness is not a condition. It’s a state of mind, a lifestyle, and even more profound than this – it’s a BEING. Consider yourself as a jar and either you will fill it with sadness or joy, you should know that the capacity of this jar is limited. Don’t flood the world with sorrow. Better splash around the felicity.
